This EP

Guitar, is a love-letter to the six-stringed instrument that has been a part of my musical world for near 25 years now.

I was never terribly great at guitar and that fact remains through this day. What's funny, is that for such a complicated and in-depth instrument, you can ‘get by’ when playing it with only a cursory knowledge of what to do.

While the guitar sits in the forefront both audibly and as a theme for this EP, it's secondary focus and source of inspiration is the genre known as ‘Shoegaze’.

I could honestly extrapolate on and on about this genre, talking until I was dehydrated and blue in the face. I will spare you this, but to explain quickly -

Shoegaze is a genre that attempts to draw all the instruments into the song as one. The vocals are usually heavily effected in a way that they become ‘just another instrument’. The song becomes a large tapestry where the musician is weaving everything together.

It also makes for an interesting mixing experience. Nothing is off the table and the sound that eventually comes from the speaker is just that; a sound. Everything is working towards the end result but how you get there isn't terribly important so long as you DO arrive.
